Day 3: 365 Things to do in and around Anthem

What a great idea for our area teens, keep them busy and feeling good about themselves.

The Anthem Civic Building and the ACC Community Center will jointly offer a Teen Summer Sampler for those ages 12 yrs. and older this summer. Teens are invited to the Civic Building for life skills workshops or teen topic presentations, arts and crafts, movie and game days, and teen fitness classes.

“We wanted to build on the success of the popular teen series last summer,” said Taylor McCulley, meeting and program manager for the Civic Building. “In doing so, we wanted to alleviate some of the congestion at the Community Center and bring teens here to give them constructive and entertaining options that appeal to a wide range of ages.”

Community Center staff, independent contractors and fitness trainers will lead a majority of the programs. Amplif(i) will present programs on topics including bullying, internet safety, body image and substance abuse. These programs will also have an evening parent/guardian-only component.

“It’s one thing to address these topics with teens,” said Desi Valdivia, aquatics and program manager at the Community Center. “But when parents come to the table, it brings a whole new level of attention to the forefront.”

Purchase a $30 Summer Passport at the Civic Building or Community Center to attend as many sessions as desired, or there will be a $5 per drop-in rate (fitness classes only). Parent/Guardian-only sessions will be free and open to the public.

All Tuesday-Wednesday events are from 1-3 p.m.; Thursday fitness classes times TBA. Evening parent presentations will be from 5-6 p.m.

Download a detailed schedule of the series.
